Click Here for Step Two - Will You Be Paid?

Will your leave be paid or unpaid?  Will you apply sick, personal, or vacation days to your leave? Do you have a private disability plan provider?  Please consider your options in totality prior to submiting your application for leave.

Paid or Unpaid Leave Using Sick, Personal, or Vacation Days

Your leave can be paid or unpaid utilizing any combination of sick, personal, or vacations days provided you meet the leave category criteria and have completed the appropriate leave application and detailed your plan for absence pay.  Both paid and unpaid leave will run concurrent with FMLA or NJFLA if applicable.

Short-Term Disability

GPSD does not pay into NJ State Disability.  Unless you pay for a private plan provider, you will not receive any state disability benefits.  Contact your private plan provider for details on how and when to file your claim with them.

NJ Family Leave Insurance

Family leave insurance benefits can partially replace wages of workers who need to care for a seriously ill or injured family member, or bond with a newborn, newly adopted or newly placed foster child. As of July 1, 2020, workers can collect Family Leave Insurance benefits for a maximum of twelve consecutive weeks in a 12-month period, or up to eight weeks (56 individual days) in a 12-month period, if taking leave in a non-continuous manner. Please visit myleavebenefits.nj.gov for additional information on how to apply, determine payments, and collect benefits under this option.
