Policy 8603 - Parent Attendance at School Bus Stop
The Board of Education recognizes its responsibility to protect the safety and welfare of all students attending the schools within the school district.  The Board also recognizes the responsibility to safeguard the welfare of students who take a bus to and from school at approved school district bus stops.  In order to assist the Board of Education in safeguarding the welfare of younger-aged students, parents of all Pre-Kindergarten through grade three students who take a school bus to and from a school in the district will be required at the bus stop when the student is embarking and disembarking the school bus.  The parent may designate a responsible person to be at the bus stop.
In the event the student’s parent or designated person is not at the school bus stop when the student is picked-up, the school bus driver will permit the child on the school bus to be driven to school and will provide the Principal the name of the student when arriving to the school.  In the event a parent or designated person of a Pre-Kindergarten through grade three student is not at the school bus stop when the student is to be dropped-off from school, the school bus driver will not allow the student to disembark the school bus and the student will remain on the school bus to be returned to the school administration.  The school bus driver will contact the student’s school if a student is maintained on the school bus and the school will immediately notify the parent that the student was retained on the school bus and where the child can be picked-up by the parent or designee.
