Introduction of New School Nurse, 2024-2025

I would like to take a moment to say that I am glad to be here at Thomas E. Bowe Middle School.  To be given this opportunity to care for your children and families in the Glassboro community I consider to be a privilege.  My last school nurse position was our neighboring school, the Clayton Public School District, where I cared for students in grades 6-12 for the last 8 years.  It was a tough decision to leave Clayton, but when I was offered the job here at Bowe, I knew it was the right move!  I love children of all ages.  My life experiences have allowed me to fit it anywhere, and this is where I want to be!

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.  I welcome your calls and look forward to sharing in the care of your children as we collaborate to make your lives a better place to be!

Overview

Absences:

  • Notify the school when your child will be absent, which will save a lot of unnecessary telephone calls in the mornings.

    • Provide a reason for the absence; symptoms your child is experiencing:

    • This will alert us to possible trends in communicable illness.

    • Allow us to accurately report communicable illness numbers to the New Jersey Department of Health.

    • Allow us to plan according.

Allergies to Foods, Drinks & Environmental:

We have a lot of students with allergies, so our goal is to prevent medical emergencies from occurring.  Therefore, our top priority is to keep all students safe and healthy!

  • Please be advised that no food or drink should be brought to school for any reason!

  • No latex balloons should be brought to school as latex is airborne!

  • Please do not allow your children to use perfume sprays or body mists, or bring them to school.

    •  Although they may smell good, this does not mean it will not cause an allergic reaction for someone else.

    • Deodorants & antiperspirants are fine as they do not commonly cause issues for others.

*Thank you for your cooperation in assisting to keep all students safe and healthy!

Behavioral or Emotional Concerns: *See the "Resources" tab for additional information!

Developmental Periods & Physical Examinations (see more information under Sports/Athletics - Frequently Asked Questions to obtain the correct form for your child's physical):

  • Each developmental period is an important one for your child.

  • One thing that should be included in each developmental period (6th grade for middle school) is a Physical Examination by your Healthcare Provider (HCP).

  • Physical examinations are a way to ensure that the learning potential of each child is not diminished by a physical problem that may easily be corrected to enable your child to participate in the school program without restriction.

  • Have your child’s HCP complete a physical examination, and forward it directly to the school nurse either by email, fax or hand delivered by your child, whichever is most convenient for you and ensures the school nurse receives it.

Emergency Contacts:

  • Update all emergency contacts in Power School for the new school year, and throughout the year as changes arise so we can reach you immediately, in an emergency.

Healthcare Forms:

  • All needed forms can be found under tab to left labeled Healthcare Forms.

  • If you do not see what you need, please reach out to your school nurse for assistance!

Medical Conditions:

  • Update all medical conditions in Power School for the new school year, and throughout the year as changes arise, so I can provide the most appropriate and beneficial treatment to your child during an emergency!

  • Contact the school nurse directly for significant changes to your child’s medical condition!
