National Honor Society
National Honor Society
Adviser: Ms. Michele Memis
Hours Log Sheet
The National Honor Society is an honorary organization to which students are elected on the basis of four qualifications: Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. The function of the NHS is to provide service to the school community.
NHS Activities
NHS membership requires that every member complete 15 hours of community service each semester.
Of these, 10 are free to be chosen by the student. The remaining five are divided between NHS's main school service programs: tutoring, in or out of school, and ushering various performances at the high school. Hours are turned in to the NHS president or vice president at the end of the semester, to be ultimately reviewed by the adviser.
Applying for Membership
Students are eligible to apply for NHS membership in the 11th or 12th grades, given a minimum cumulative GPA of 93 and participation in a variety of extracurricular organizations and service activities. The applicant must also present two letters of recommendation, not from teachers or family members. Inductions are held in the fall of an accepted applicant's junior or senior year.
Further questions about NHS activities or membership may be directed to Ms. Memis.
