Hey there Bulldogs,

My name is Christian Lynch (but more commonly known as "Coach Lynch"), and I am honored and humbled to be the Director of Athletics at Glassboro High School. This is a district steeped in tradition and excellence, and I consider myself fortunate to be a member of the Bulldog family. 

I have a long history in the local area. Having grown up in nearby Franklinville and attended Delsea Regional High School, I frequently found myself on the local basketball courts, the old bowling alley, and, of course, Taco Bell as a youth. In high school, I was a committed student-athlete (cross country and track) as well as a hardcore musician. After college, I attended Princeton University where I majored in Psychology, with a deep research emphasis in social psychology and stereotype threat. I also was a member of the varsity cross country and track teams at Princeton.

After expecting to move into the medical field after college, my career took a very fortunate detour, as I took a last-minute teaching job as a first-grade teacher and cross-country coach at Princeton Day School while finishing research work at Princeton University (which eventually was published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology). From there, I was offered a job as a second-grade teacher at a charter school, Trenton Community Charter School (which has since closed), where I also received my standard teaching certification. I then was offered the opportunity to grow a fledgling interscholastic athletic program at Princeton Charter School, a PreK-8 school, as their athletic coordinator, which I took. While there, I also taught grades 3-8 in science, math, social studies, and physical education. After implementing an 11-sport interscholastic athletic program, I decided that my almost 1.5-hour daily commute to central New Jersey was taking a toll on my family, so I made a change.

I was offered a position at Kingsway Regional Middle School as an eighth-grade science teacher and a position at Kingsway Regional High School as the cross country, winter track & field, and spring track & field coach. I subsequently spent 18 great years at Kingsway, a district that had approximately 500 middle school students and 900 high school students when I started and ballooned to 900 middle school students and 1800 high school students. I taught over 2500 different students during that time. Points of pride for me at Kingsway include:

• Being selected as "Dragon of the Month" twice during my tenure

• Receiving the district's Distinguished Service Award

• Starting our school's first equity committee (along with former Gloucester County superintendent Ave Altersitz), which sponsored countless roundtable discussions, information gathering initiatives, guest speakers, and community forums aimed at supporting the district's equity plan aimed at inclusiveness and access.

• Being involved in science curriculum writing and mentorship during my time at Kingsway.

• Finding time to go back to school to get my master's in educational administration at Rowan. 

Athletically, I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of student-athletes as well as fantastic coaching staffs, having unprecedented success within our cross country and track programs including:

• Coaching for 15 state championship teams (five in cross country; 10 in track) and 30 South Jersey championship teams.

• Being named New Jersey state coach of the year twice

• Being named South Jersey Coach of the Year five times

• Receiving induction into the New Jersey Coaches Hall of Fame as well as the Gloucester County Sports Hall of Fame

• Receiving commendation from the NJSIAA for career contributions in cross country.

• Coaching over 200 student-athletes who went on to compete at the collegiate level.

• Serving on the NJSIAA Cross Country and Track committees since 2014.

• This fall, I also took on the role of head coach of the Glassboro HS cross-country team. I am pleased to report that they were able to win the TCC Diamond Division Championship, Gloucester County Championship, Tri-County Conference Championship, South Jersey Group 1 Championship, AND its first NJ State Group 1 Championship!

Currently, I still live in the area with my daughters, Kayley (22) and Khloe (16). They both are avid volleyball players. Kayley, a Williamstown HS graduate, is a proud Rowan engineering graduate now pursuing a master's degree at Rowan. Khloe is an 11th grader who plays volleyball for Williamstown High School. They are my "pride and joy" and keep me young!

Now, as a Bulldog, I am excited to bring my passion for people, for education, and for athletics to Glassboro, and I look forward to working with each of our kids and their families every day. With a commitment to the plan, a focus on our work, and faith in the process, we will reach the high goals that we have set for our students and school. I look forward to interacting in a positive, productive way with kids and adults alike in the community.
