COVID-19 Special Education 2020
March 30, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been a whirlwind in the Special Services Department the past two weeks as we implement new ways to reach our students and families. I am sure that your time juggling the demands of the quarantine, your student’s education, and your own schedules have been just as challenging. I want you to know that we will get through this together.
Our goal is to ensure that IEP services are being provided. Therefore, our teachers, case managers, and related services providers are working together to give you the best experience possible during this unprecedented situation. You may reach out to staff members at any time, and we will respond promptly. It is important to note that many staff phone numbers will present as blocked numbers. Please consider answering blocked phone numbers while school is not in session.
Case managers and special education teachers are working with general education teachers to provide the instructional services indicated in your child’s IEP. Special services staff members will continue to be available to assist your students in accessing the curriculum and to ensure that accommodations and modifications will be provided. Although you have already received communication from our related service providers, speech and language specialists and counselors will be reaching out shortly to schedule direct, web-based services. Occupational and physical therapists will continue to provide consultative services.
We will also continue to hold meetings via phone conference and web-based platforms. If you have any questions about an upcoming meeting, reach out to your child’s case manager. Please don’t hesitate to contact me as well.
I miss seeing your students daily and look forward to school resuming. Thank you for your support during these challenging times!
Sincerely,
Christine Williams
Supervisor of Special Services
