Wilson FUNdations is used to supplement whole group phonics instruction and is also utilized for individual/small group interventions. It is multi-sensory in nature. Students are taught using explicit instruction to cue themselves to decode words as they develop an understanding of the phonemic and atypical word patterns. These patterns are often the key to reading fluency and finding meaning in text. Stronger spelling and writing skills emanate from this process as well. Wilson is a fast paced method that teaches application of phonemic instruction to a larger reading context. Practice materials are controlled to reinforce the skills. Students move from controlled text to literature as they gain confidence in their ability to approach any word, sentence or paragraph and read it fluently.
