South Jersey Coaches Association Inducts Jean Bower

The South Jersey Coaches Association recently inducted retired Glassboro High School field hockey coach Jean Bower into its 2019 Hall of Fame. Bower taught physical education at GHS, coaching field hockey there from 1968-1975. During that time, her teams boasted a record of 87-13-14. Her 1972 team won the South Jersey State Title and the NJ All State Title with a record of 18-0. The 1975 team won the South Jersey Group 1 and NJ Group 1 titles. Her teams were conference champions in 1968, 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1975.

Prior to teaching at GHS, Bower taught at Penns Grove for three years. During that time, Bower’s field hockey and basketball teams won conference titles for two years.

Bower is a member of both the Gloucester County and the GHS Sports Halls of Fame. In 1975, the Woodbury Times named her as Coach of the Year. She was also named the Camden Courier-Post Coach of the Year in 1975, and the Field Hockey Club of South Jersey Coach of the Year in 1972.

Bower lives in South Jersey with her son, Jack Bowers. She has three children, eight grandchildren, and more than a dozen great-grandchildren.

Family, her former GHS coaching assistant and former GHS players recently joined Bower to celebrate.
