Glassboro High School and Rowan University Ceremony Celebrates a New PDS Partnership
Glassboro High School and Rowan University celebrated their Professional Development School (PDS) Partnership with a ceremony outside of GHS on Tuesday, September 25. Glassboro High School is the fourth school in the district to become a Rowan University Professional Development School. J. Harvey Rodgers, Dorothy L. Bullock and Thomas E. Bowe schools are also Professional Development Schools.
What does this mean for our schools and Rowan? Each PDS is assigned a Rowan University professor in residence. That professor is dedicated to collaborating with the school to offer professional development to staff members and to working on special projects or research to benefit students. The professor works with both staff and students. GHS's professor in residence is Dr. Reginald Hickman. Hickman will work onsite at GHS. Our Professional Development Schools also benefit Rowan University teaching candidates (student teachers) and the teaching profession by providing candidates with an opportunity to learn in a real school environment.
The high school celebration offered a unique and festive combination of school district and Rowan speakers as well as student performances. With cheers from out GHS cheerleaders, music from the marching band and songs from the select choir, the ceremony was marked with an abundance of school spirit and pride.
Students unfurled a Professional Development School Banner that Rowan University gave to GHS to mark the partnership. That banner now hangs outside of Glassboro High School next to a similar banner for the Glassboro Fine & Performing Arts and STEM/Biomedical Academies.
See below for pictures of the ceremony and the new banner.
