    Welcome to Basic Skills Instruction!

The goal of Basic Skills Instruction (BSI) is to give your child the skills and self-confidence they need to become independent, life-long learners.  BSI provides supplemental instruction in the areas of language, reading, and fine motor development.  Skills we work on include:

    • Expressive and receptive language development

    • Vocabulary building

    • Concept development & readiness skills

    • Alphabet recognition

    • Letter formation

    • Rhyming and alliteration

    • Phonemic awareness skills - the ability to hear and manipulate sounds in words

    • Sight words

    • Reading decodable texts (when students are ready)

As a result, your child will:

    • Learn capital and lower-case letters and sounds

    • Learn how to form letters correctly

    • Segment words into sounds

    • Blend sounds to create words

    • Practice becoming a fluent reader.

    • Comprehend details from stories and informational text.
