Welcome to Basic Skills Instruction!
The goal of Basic Skills Instruction (BSI) is to give your child the skills and self-confidence they need to become independent, life-long learners. BSI provides supplemental instruction in the areas of language, reading, and fine motor development. Skills we work on include:
-
Expressive and receptive language development
-
Vocabulary building
-
Concept development & readiness skills
-
Alphabet recognition
-
Letter formation
-
Rhyming and alliteration
-
Phonemic awareness skills - the ability to hear and manipulate sounds in words
-
Sight words
-
Reading decodable texts (when students are ready)
As a result, your child will:
-
Learn capital and lower-case letters and sounds
-
Learn how to form letters correctly
-
Segment words into sounds
-
Blend sounds to create words
-
Practice becoming a fluent reader.
-
Comprehend details from stories and informational text.
