I am eager to work with our students, families, and community and am looking forward to another fantastic school year! If you have questions regarding our program, transitioning to school, community resources, or simply need assistance, please reach out! I can be reached at khayes@gpsd.us or 856-652-2700 x 5212.
What is a Community Parent Involvement Specialist?
The CPIS enhances and supports family involvement in the preschool program. My goal is to support all families through various workshops, committees, community programs, optional home visitations and activities. Each month your child will be sent home with a Community Calendar that outlines various activities within Glassboro and surrounding towns. We encourage all families to take advantage of the amazing events and programs that our community has to offer!
All important school information and community updates will be posted on this webpage.
Social Emotional Learning
The Pre-K program will be following Glassboro's district-wide character development initiative, CITRS (Character-Integrity-Trust-Relationships-Success). Each month, I will facilitate a classroom lesson related to the monthly virtue. In this lesson, students will become familiar with each virtue by utilizing age-appropriate terminology, activities, and read alouds. If your child comes home saying they were announced as a "Bulldog Buddy" they demonstrated good character and an understanding of the monthly virtue!
Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC)
The CPIS & Master Teacher chair the Glassboro Early Childhood Advisory Council. The ECAC's mission is to support an all-inclusive, high-quality education for Preschool students who reside in Glassboro. We believe early childhood is a crucial time in development that requires positive experiences from which children can develop and grow. Within this committee, the school community and local community meet quarterly and work together to address the needs of students.
Parent Workshops
We will host 4 workshops throughout the school year. Flyers will be sent home in your child's bag, along with a memo through School Messenger. Topics of each workshop will be based off our Community Needs Assessment.

Family & School Connection
The most learning takes place when parents and teachers work together! There are many ways that you could support your child's learning both in the classroom and at home.
- Maintain open lines of communication between school and home
- Take an active interest in your child's daily routine at school (ask them questions about their day!)
- Read to your child every night and have your child read to you
- Celebrate your child's successes
- Talk to your child's teachers about their progress
- Make an active effort to attend school events inclusive of celebrations, workshops, PTO events and school events (Back-to-School Night, Conferences, etc.)
- Engage in daily conversations with your child (learn about their classmates, teachers, daily routine, highs & lows of their day)
- Volunteer for school-wide events
Communication is a crucial piece of your child's academic and social success. Please check your child's backpack and folder every day for important messages and memos from the school. We are all in this together and are always available for any needed support!
