National Honor SocietyAdviser: Ms. Michele MemisThe National Honor Society is an honorary organization to which students are elected on the basisof four qualifications: Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. The function of the NHSis to provide service to the school community._____________________________________________________________________________________NHS ActivitiesNHS membership requires that every member complete 15 hours of community service each semester.Of these, 10 are free to be chosen by the student. The remaining five are divided between NHS's mainschool service programs: tutoring, in or out of school, and ushering various performances at the highschool. Hours are turned in to the NHS president or vice president at the end of the semester, to beultimately reviewed by the adviser.Applying for MembershipStudents are eligible to apply for NHS membership in the 11th or 12th grades, given a minimumcumulative GPA of 93 and participation in a variety of extracurricular organizations and serviceactivities. The applicant must also present two letters of recommendation, not from teachers orfamily members. Inductions are held in the fall of an accepted applicant's junior or senior year.Further questions about NHS activities or membership may be directed to Ms. Memis, mmemis@gpsd.us.
