    One Simple Goal: Student Success

    We have a simple goal in Glassboro Schools, and that is to help our students succeed, in and out of the classroom.  Glassboro continually strives to implement the highest caliber programs, curricula, and assessments to guarantee successful, culturally prepared, and self-directed learners.

     

    Achieving that goal requires collaboration, coordination and creativity of teachers, staff, families and the entire community.  Thank you for every effort you contribute to enriching our students’ experience, and preparing them for higher education, the world of work, military service, and whatever else comes next. 

     

    Below is a summary of some of the work we are doing to enhance curriculum from Rodgers School through the High School.  The focus is on literacy and math skill development, rigor and relevancy, differentiated instruction and innovative new programs such as the fine and Performing Arts Academy at Glassboro High School.

     

    Exceeding Standards

    Glassboro Public Schools provides a comprehensive educational program built on best-practice research and study in all subject areas.  Each area of curriculum will be revised with the 2009 NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards and the Common Core Language Arts and Mathematics Standards.   The faculty has been striving to achieve and exceed the standards set by the state, as well as the building-level goals we set for ourselves.

     

    Rigor and Assessment

    We have set the tone for rigor and common assessment at every grade level by requiring that our teachers implement assessments to show teacher and student academic progress. Our administration will focus on examining assessment results to inform instruction and provide strategies to enhance achievement. Our new curriculum plan will be reviewed annually to address any gaps between each school.

     

    Addressing Individual Student Needs

    Excellent teaching targets the variable learning needs of a diverse population through Differentiated Instruction and Teaching for Relevancy. Our teachers are beginning to meet the diverse needs of our students through flexible grouping, adjustment of context, process and product in response to student readiness and learning profiles.

     

    Glassboro Schools continues to participate in the Science and Technology of Teaching, a professional development series for teachers and staff based on Ruby Payne’s Understanding Poverty initiative.  The program helps teachers to differentiate instruction based on the cultural and experiential differences their students bring to the classroom.

     

    Diversity in Programming

    The district provides a pre-school program, full-day kindergarten, a program for gifted and talented, accelerated Literacy and Math programs, a program for children in need of academic support, and English as a Second Language program. Enrichment and remedial programs are available through after school and extended school-year programs. An array of special educational services is provided in all grades. Guidance and counseling services are provided in all grades.

                   

    A variety of co-and extra-curricular activities provides a rich schooling experience. Parents and guardians are encouraged to become actively involved in their children’s education. The district offers numerous opportunities for community participation and input, including a comprehensive parent/family nights that provided families an opportunity to learn together.

     

    Innovation in the Classroom

    In September 2011, Glassboro unveiled the Fine and Performing Arts Academy (FPA), a  cooperative, dual-credit program offered in conjunction with Rowan University.  Glassboro High School students will participate in challenging academic classes and develop musicianship skills through specialized music classes and ensembles at the high school and at Rowan.  Students will be given a specialized fine arts education where teachers team up to offer college credit music classes, private lessons with university faculty, and participation in both high school and college ensembles.
